b. October 26, 1817, in Kirtland, Ohio; d. April 29, 1901, in Clinton, Illinois. Moore came to Illinois in May of 1839 and settled in Pekin, Illinois. There he taught school until the spring of 1840 when he was hired as a clerk in the courthouse at Tremont. At around the same time, Moore began to read law under the firm of Bailey and Wilmont and was admitted to the bar in July of 1841. The following month, he moved to Clinton, Illinois, where he began to practice law and business. In 1852, Moore entered into what proved to be a very lucrative partnership with Judge David Davis for the purpose of buying and selling land. This partnership continued until David Davis’s death in 1886. In 1870, Moore served as a member of the Illinois constitutional convention.
